Racine County officials sound alarm after increase in suspected opioid drug overdoses

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Racine County and city health officials have issued an alert Tuesday because of an increase in suspected opioid drug overdoses in the county.

Between the 21st and 27th of May, there were four reports of suspected overdoses, a number officials say is higher than expected. 

In just 2023 alone, they report 83 suspected overdoses, a 268% rise over last year. 

Health departments are directing the public to get Narcan and fentanyl test strips, available for free at the City of Racine Public Health Department: (262) 636-9431 and Behavioral Health Services of Racine County: (262) 638-6375.

They're also pushing people to share information about overdoses and drug trends in the community.
