Beloved Cedarburg business shuts doors after 50+ years, future unknown as new owner steps in
CEDARBURG, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A longtime Cedarburg staple is shutting its doors after half a century of business.
Circle B Recreation is a popular community hub for bowling, parties and all kinds of events.
But on Monday, June 22, the business posted a statement to its Facebook page alerting customers it was permanently closing.
Two days later, however, a new post went up that a new owner had acquired the facility and wanted to reopen "as soon as possible."
For regulars like Julie Bako, who has frequented the spot for more than 20 years, this was bittersweet.
"I started bowling there when I was in their youth league so probably since middle school and I'm going to be turning 40 this year so it's been a long time," Bako said. "I currently live in Racine and make the 45-minute commute just because all the people there are like family. Anytime you walk in, it's just a fun atmosphere to be in."
She noted that when she first heard about the closure, it seemed surreal it was finally happening.
"Every summer it was one more year, we got one more year, and so I had just heard about it probably a month ago and then this time it sounded more definite that our beloved Circle B was closing," Bako recalled. "It's crazy to think that it's actually closed."
Bako added that it's the people she's met along the way that have turned the business into a different kind of home.
"The sense of family, the sense of community bowling at Circle B sets it apart," Bako said. "I just don't want to see it torn down, because that'd be really sad. It's a staple in Cedarburg."
It's still unclear what is yet to become of the facility.
CBS 58 reached out to the former owner for comment but as of this publication, have not yet heard back.
