NOW: Fond du Lac County offering nearly $10,000 to move there

FOND DU LAC, Wis (CBS 58) -- Fond du Lac County is partnering up with the online platform MakeMyMove for a talent attraction campaign.

The county received grant money and is getting help from local businesses to attract workers.

“This is a half million-dollar talent attraction campaign,” Envision Greater Fond Du Lac CEO Sadie Howell said. “We really have been hearing from our employers that they want to grow but they maybe are a little unsure right now with our population trajectory.”

The county is offering people $9,500 to move, and to stay in the county for at least a year.

You are required to be at least 18 years old, pass a background check, and make at least $55,000 per year to qualify.

“It’s targeted towards those who want to be a part of the workforce and more importantly do you want to live in Fond Du Lac County,” Howell said.

The offer includes $5,500 in cash, along with $4,000 worth of other offers, including VIP festival packages, golf and YMCA memberships, and gift cards to local shops and restaurants.

“We haven't had a lot of growth, so this has been on our radar for a number of years,” Howell said.

The goal is to have 32 families move in over the next two years.

“We want our employers to feel secure in that they can continue to operate and invest in Fond Du Lac County and be guaranteed that they’re gonna have a workforce that is reliable for their expansion,” Howell said.
