Operator of The Hop honored for protecting woman and her service dog

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A streetcar operator is being recognized for heroically stepping in to protect a woman and her service dog during a recent encounter. Those two women reunited for the first time since the incident on Tuesday, Sept. 16. A thank you ceremony was hosted at the streetcar operations and maintenance facility.
The incident happened last month while boarding The Hop. Jeanine, the service dog's owner, noticed two large dogs behaving curiously.
Moments later, their owner lost control of the leash and the dogs suddenly charged at her and her smaller service dog.
Thankfully, the operator's quick reaction kept them safe.
"I gotta do something so instantly I just jumped up, put the dogs behind me, I grabbed Jeanine by her back and turned her around and said 'go!' And she walked on off, I took the dogs to follow me back to where we were sitting at, and I watched Jeanine until she crossed the street," said Charlet Simmon, The Hop operator.
"She's a good Samaritan," said Jeanine.
On top of the award, donations were presented to a few related nonprofits, and Jeanine was taken through a behind-the-scenes tour of The Hop's operations center.
