Construction to soon begin on Kenosha Co. mixed-use development project

KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- CBS 58 was on hand Wednesday, Nov. 29, for a groundbreaking ceremony in Kenosha County.

It's a big, wide-open space right now, but it won't be empty for long.

Construction will begin soon on the Greeneway Project. It will be a community-oriented, mixed-use development that will include places to live, work and shop.

The Forest County Potawatomi community is involved in the project.

Representatives were part of Wednesday's groundbreaking, and respect for the surrounding land is part of the deal.

"This property will provide housing. It'll be a home for commerce, and it is being developed in a way that respects the land by preserving its natural beauty and all the amenities," said developer Andy Weigman.

"Kenosha is a big part of our history and is our home. And we are proud to support those who also call it home today," said James Crawford, Forest County Potawatomi chairman.

The Greeneway Project will stand on the site of the old Dairyland Greyhound dog track, which closed in 2009.
