Common Council president expresses concern over crimes committed by young people in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The president of Milwaukee's Common Council is expressing his concern about what he calls a recent "surge" in crime, with many of the incidents committed by young people.

On Wednesday, CBS 58 reported on the case of a 14-year-old boy charged with two dozen felonies, including robberies, shootings and a deadly hit-and-run during the recent Harley-Davidson Homecoming celebration.

Alderman Jose Perez released a statement Thursday saying that while crime appears to be down in some categories in Milwaukee, the number of calls and emails he gets about criminal acts are up sharply.

He says every day he hears from people who want to know how the city will respond and suggesting that they'll consider leaving the city.
