‘We’re so blessed:' Families reflect on EF-2 tornado that hit Lisbon-Sussex area as cleanup begins
CBS 58 SUSSEX, Wis (CBS 58) - According to the National Weather Service, an EF-2 tornado hit the Lisbon-Sussex area on Tuesday night, April 14.
Several homes were impacted by the tornado, with sections of roof ripped off and windows broken from the high winds.
Nate Roth was home with his family when the tornado hit on Tuesday night.
“The back side of the roof blew off one side of the house, water was everywhere and the roof is right over there in the street along with a lot of other things that blew around last night,” Roth said.
Roth and his family took cover and had water running into the house and the basement after the storm passed.
"Our ears all started hurting and just a bunch of noises and banging sounds,” Roth said. "Unbelievable, still a shock, still doesn’t feel like it’s real.”
Ethan Hebbe lives down the street from the Roth family, earlier this week his wife had a baby.
“Within his first 48 hours we had two tornado warnings, we were in the basement twice,” Hebbe said.
On Tuesday night, Hebbe’s wife was in the basement with the newborn baby as the tornado passed by
“She was at home in the basement hearing the hail and the wind and the tornado,” Hebbe said. “Oh my gosh we’re so blessed, especially when I saw today the other houses that are really damaged.”
Hunter Terrell lives in the same neighborhood and was home when the storm rolled through.
“You never really think about this stuff until it happens to ya,” Terrell said. “You might fantasize about it just a little bit just like what would I do in this situation, once you get into it it’s just like hey, do what you need to do get to safety.”
