VA 2K: Nationwide initiative gets people outside in support of VA clinics

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A nationwide initiative got people outside in support of VA clinics. Wednesday, May 17, was the VA 2K.

Employees and veterans at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center participated in the event.

Going for a stroll may seem like a simple task but for veterans, events like this can make a world of difference.

"Keeping them active, engaged is so important for their physical health, mental health, and to create a social network and comradery that they can depend on," said Courtney Zeller, recreation therapist for the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.

That's just one of two goals of the 2K.

It's all designed to raise awareness for VA homeless veterans' services.
