MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Two downtown businesses stepped up help Milwaukee police detective Andrew Wilkiewicz, who was shot and wounded while trying to stop a robbery in the Third Ward this month.
The Calderone Club and San Giorgio Pizzeria will donate half of their proceeds from Thursday night, Jan. 27, to support the detective who is recovering from his injuries.
The restaurants are side-by-side on Martin Luther King Drive at Kilbourn.
A crowd showed up Thursday for food and to help a hero, and the detective himself showed up to express his gratitude.
"The support I've gotten since this incident from everybody's been just overwhelmingly positive, and it's -- very, very grateful that so many people have reached out," Det. Wilkiewicz said. "It does mean a lot to me that everybody's been so generous to reach out and help me in my recovery and to support me."
Speaking of the incident in which he was wounded, Det. Wilkiewicz said, "I saw something bad happening and I just reacted."
