MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The man accused of killing his 4-year-old son last month appeared in court Wednesday, Aug. 6, as did his wife.

Thirty-five-year-old Ralph Taylor is accused of shooting Ralph Taylor III in the head on July 10 at their apartment on the north side.

Both suspects-the parents- had no attorneys, even after the court asked around 130 attorneys to take the case.

According to a criminal complaint, Ralph Taylor has a long history of domestic violence against Cassandra Taylor, the mother of the 4-year-old victim. She also faces charges, including child neglect resulting in death.

The victim's 9-year-old sibling reportedly told investigators that Ralph becomes physically and verbally abusive when he drinks alcohol. He'd also allegedly threatened to shoot his wife and himself.

The day of the shooting, Ralph allegedly woke up "wanting to fight" the 9-year-old, accusing the child of taking a PS4 video game system, and later fighting with his wife, Cassandra, breaking her Chromebook.

He eventually grabbed his 4-year-old child, according to the complaint, took him upstairs, and shot him.

"I mean, candidly, given the nature of these allegations, and more importantly, the nature of the allegations against Mr. Taylor, I'm not overly surprised that the public defender's office said they're not finding any attorney that's willing to take this," said Hon. David Borowski.

About 10 minutes before Ralph arrived in court, a state defender was appointed to him.

Cassandra, however, still does not have representation. She had tissues in hand and was crying during and after the hearing.

They'll both be back in court on Aug. 22.
