Milwaukee County Zoo prepares to get wild for A La Carte

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Officials with the Milwaukee County Zoo say the grounds were spared from flooding and any major damage over last weekend's storms.

"We've have very minimal damage. We really got off quite lucky compared to some other festivals in the area that are not too far," said Kimberly Graves, the communications coordinator for the zoo. "Our pets at home maybe don't like storms. Animals here probably don't love it, but they're obviously safe and warm and dry inside."

Now, the animals are ready to party. A La Carte has been a fan favorite at the Milwaukee County Zoo for decades. This Thursday through Sunday, you'll find six stages of national headliners-- like the Los Lonely Boys and Phillip Phillips-- plus more than 25 food vendors.

Vendors include restaurants from around Milwaukee, food trucks and drinks.

"We are showcasing some items from Tiki Bubble that's our boba theme stand, which I'm really excited about because it's featuring Dole Whip. If you're familiar with Dole Whip it's kind of hard to find," said Graves.

The executive chef at the zoo is putting a twist on county fair foods. Places like Margaux, Saz's and Bel Air will all have stands around the grounds. People are encouraged to check out the list of vendors beforehand.

A La Carte is also one of the rare times you can stay at the zoo past the animals normal bed time.

"And the zoo is open late, so you can see the animals at night which is a really unique opportunity," said Graves.

Tickets are on sale now for all four days of the event
