WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) – A Wauwatosa man was sentenced to 90 days in jail for an attack in a Walmart parking lot in New Berlin.
On Wednesday morning, the judge gave John Engebos 90 days in jail plus probation for the July 2018 incident.
As part of a plea deal, the felony charge against Engebos was lowered to a misdemeanor.
The incident was caught on surveillance video. The victim, Cori Richardson, says Engebos attacked her after she asked him to move his shopping cart.
Authorities say he punched and kicked her, pulled her hair and then shoved her shopping cart with her baby still inside of it.
“I’ve never had an issue with anxiety before,” she said in court. “But since the attack, I experience major anxiety during any personal interactions.”
Engebos also spoke in court.
“I guess I wish I would’ve just said nothing and got in my car and left,” he said.
A restitution hearing was set for April.
