IRS extends tax deadline to November for Wisconsinites hit by spring storms

CBS 58

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- The IRS is giving Wisconsin taxpayers who have been impacted by severe storms, tornadoes and flooding that began April 13 until Nov. 2 to file federal tax returns and make payments, the agency announced Monday, July 13.

The relief applies to individuals and businesses in 21 counties, including Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, Waukesha and Washington counties, as well as the Oneida Indian Reservation, following a federal disaster declaration.

The extension covers 2025 individual returns that were due April 15, along with quarterly payroll and certain excise tax deadlines that fell during the postponement period.

Impacted taxpayers can also claim disaster-related casualty losses on either their 2026 or 2025 tax return and may qualify to exclude certain disaster relief payments from their taxable income, according to the IRS.

Taxpayers claiming relief should include the FEMA disaster declaration number, 4923-DR, on their return.
