CBS 58 Hometowns LIVE: Bastille Days transforms Cathedral Square Park into 'a slice of France' this weekend

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Cathedral Square Park is once again hosting Bastille Days, running through Sunday, July 12, with crepes, beignets and a French Bulldog kissing booth among the offerings.

Anne LaPlae, with Alliance Française de Milwaukee, said her group's beignet tent stays busy making the pastries from scratch using flour, water and yeast, with about a dozen cooks working the booth.

Proceeds benefit the organization, which is marking its 108th year in Milwaukee and has been involved with the festival since it began more than 40 years ago. This year's tent is also offering a new chocolate Nutella beignet.

The festival's Storm the Bastille 5K takes place Thursday night, July 9, with French Consul General Charlotte Montel joining Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Ald. Bob Bauman to launch the race.
