CBS 58’s Hometown Athlete: Kevin Zeitler’s NFL journey comes full circle
CBS 58 WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Waukesha native Kevin Zeitler put together quite the impressive NFL resume prior to this season, starting over 200 games in the league. But year number 15 might be his most rewarding achievement as he returned home, signing a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers.
"It's really cool, growing up a big Packers fan and enjoying the Brett Favre eras and all that," said Zeitler. "Just to come back and know the history, be back in the state of Wisconsin, it's pretty great, my family is pretty excited and wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
From visiting with the team in Green Bay to signing the contract, one of the first people Kevin kept updated was his wife, Sara, who also is a Wisconsin native. They first met when they were 14, both attending Wisconsin Lutheran High School.
CBS 58 talked with Sara a couple days before the Packers 31-7 win over the Bears, which happened to be Kevin's debut with the Packers. He played six snaps on special teams with nearly 20 of his family members watching on, and over 50 people waiting to see him at a pre-planned afterparty.
"You know how many wives can say they can just watch their husband at work all the time? It's so cool," said Sara Zeitler. "It's going to be amazing, there will be a lot of tears, I'll have to have waterproof mascara on because there will be a lot of amazing emotions."
Zeitler is still in the mix to start at right guard for the Packers moving forward, though the coaching staff has told the media they want to get him fully up to speed before playing him for a significant number of snaps.
