Governor candidate Tom Tiffany pushes to end emissions testing in Wisconsin

CBS 58

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- There's a new push to end emissions testing in Wisconsin.

Congressman Tom Tiffany, candidate for governor of Wisconsin, is part of the push. He says emissions testing imposes a financial burden on drivers and it's no longer needed because today's vehicles are cleaner and more efficient.

In a post shared on his social media page Monday, Tiffany said:

"Hundreds of thousands of Wisconsin drivers across seven counties must take time out of their day to travel to testing sites and complete mandatory vehicle emissions tests every two years just to renew their registration.
Drivers in southeastern Wisconsin shouldn’t be stuck with an outdated vehicle emissions test that ignores pollution from places like Chicago and forces costly repairs on those who can least afford them.
As governor, I will end vehicle emissions testing."
