Evers declares state of emergency due to elevated flooding concerns
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Governor Tony Evers has declared a state of emergency throughout Wisconsin because of severe flooding.
Heavy rainfall and rapid snowmelt have run off into rivers and streams.
Evers says it has contributed to flooding in several counties in Northern Wisconsin.
Wisconsin State Patrol and the National Weather Service are urging Wisconsinites to stay away from rising waters if possible.
“Protecting Wisconsinites from potential major flood impacts is a serious concern for our state, especially as the water levels could continue to rise in the coming days,” said Gov. Evers. “This executive order instructs state agencies and the Wisconsin National Guard to provide assistance should the need arise and helps ensure resources are available to assist with response and recovery efforts.”
For the communities that are being affected, emergency responders will be helping with sandbagging and other precautions.
