Dr. Wieslawa Tlomak becomes 1st female chief medical examiner in Milwaukee County

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Dr. Wieslawa Tlomak was unanimously approved by the Milwaukee County Board Thursday as Milwaukee County's next chief medical examiner.

Dr. Tlomak has served as Milwaukee County's interim chief medical examiner since October 2002, and before that held roles as assistant medical examiner and deputy chief medical examiner.

A press release from County Executive David Crowley's Office says she holds a medical degree from the Medical School of Wroclaw in Poland and an educational commission for foreign medical graduates’ certification of medical diploma. The release says Dr. Tlomak was a pediatrician in Poland before immigrating to the US to pursue a career in pathology.

She's the first woman in Milwaukee County's history to serve as chief medical examiner.

“Our residents are in good hands when qualified leaders at all levels reflect the population they serve. Thank you to the County Board for sharing those values and voting unanimously to approve Dr. Tlomak as the next Chief Medical Examiner of Milwaukee County,” said County Executive David Crowley. “As someone who understands both the challenges of immigrating to a new country and pursuing the passion of improving health through public service, Dr. Tlomak is uniquely qualified to lead the Medical Examiner’s office and aid our organizations in pursuing its stated goals.”
