LAKE GENEVA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- On Monday morning, July 6, the Big Foot High School football team traded and their shoulder pads for work gloves and chainsaws.

“We have cut trees, broke trees, stacked them together. We’ve been pulling trees with trucks," said River Jedlicka, a Big Foot highschooler.

Their community needed an extra set of hands.

"It is something I’ve never seen before. I mean, I’ve been here for 50 years, and this just totally wiped out," said Bob Camps, a pastor at Como Community Church.

Massive storms blew through the Lake Geneva area on Friday leaving behind significant damage.

“I mean all these trees, and you can see them. Every one of them snapped," said Camps.

Just a few miles away, Michael Busking was caught in the storm that evening.

“I thought we were in the middle of a tornado. The wind was so strong and just couldn’t see anything," said Busking, whose mother lives in the Village of Como.

Downed trees and blocked roads made it difficult to get home.

“Stopped and got my mom's little chainsaw and at least cut the branch off as much to get our car in on the road," said Busking.

Now, this neighborhood is rebuilding. At Como Community Church, it's just in time.

“We have a funeral tomorrow for a veteran, so it was very important to have that here," said Camps.

No matter the damage, even the worst storms bring out the best in a community.

"The community gives stuff to us, and they come out to our games, we just want to give back to the community and help them out," said Jedlicka.
