'Breaking Down Bullets': Mayor Johnson hosts Peace Week panel on gun violence in Milwaukee

CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- As a part of Peace Week, Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson hosted a panel discussion addressing gun violence.

The "Breaking Down Bullets" discussion brings together city leaders, law enforcement, and survivors to focus on prevention, healing and community action.

One of those leaders in attendance was Karin Tyler, the director of community wellness and safety. She says these important conversations play a vital role in helping create a safer Milwaukee.

"It's just important because we may see the statistics, we may hear different conversations, but it's important to hear the people behind the numbers and the data who live behind this reality every day," Tylers said. "We all just need to come together and do better as a city, so we can really see these numbers trend down when it comes to gun violence."

Peace Week events are continuing throughout the week, with a community service volunteer day kicking off Friday morning, May 22.
