Bodycam captures fatal police-involved shooting near 84th and Kaul
Milwaukee Police Department MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department on Monday, June 29, released body camera footage from a police-involved shooting that left a 22-year-old man dead.
The incident happened on June 12, near 84th and Kaul.
Milwaukee police say just before 11 a.m., officers responded to a call about a man with a gun threatening to shoot the caller near 84th and W. Kaul Ave. Officer learned that the man was trying to rob the caller. When police arrived, they saw the suspect walking away from the scene and attempted to stop him.
The 22-year-old suspect -- identified as Jaylyn J. Brown -- can be seen on body camera footage holding a gun to his head and threatening to shoot officers. Brown can then be seen entering an apartment building as officers shout for him to stop.
Brown retreated to a hallway on the second floor, when officers heard a gun discharge.
Police made entry to the apartment building and repeatedly order Brown to drop the revolver; one officer discharged their firearm at Brown. No one was struck by gunfire at this time, according to police.
Officers reportedly negotiated with Brown for approximately one hour, and at one point, he agreed to accept a bottle of water and a cigar from police.
Brown walked down the stairs, according to police, to retrieve the water and cigar; officers used "less lethal options" in an effort to apprehend him, but Brown retreated back upstairs.
When officers gained access to the second floor, gunshots were heard.
Officers then encountered Brown and discharged their firearms at him, subsequently striking him.
Brown was transported to a hospital where he died.
The officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative duty as is routine in a critical incident.
