iStock / studio-fi LAKE MILLS, Wis. (CBS 58) - A 14-year-old from Madison died Sunday afternoon after drowning at Sandy Beach Park in Lake Mills.
According to the Lake Mills Police Department, authorities were called to the park shortly after 3:15 p.m. after receiving a report of a missing swimmer.
Responding crews determined the teenager was last seen in the designated swimming area and immediately focused rescue efforts in the water.
The teen was located and removed from the lake by the Lake Mills Dive Team shortly after 3:45 p.m.
Emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
Investigators said the teen was not wearing a personal flotation device. Based on witness statements, authorities believe the drowning was a tragic accident.
The incident remains under investigation.
