MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The fifth annual Youth Victory Over Violence Week kicked off in Milwaukee Monday. Though the week has been recognized over the past few years, the Common Council officially designated the last week in April to be Youth Victory Over Violence Week just a few days ago.
This week of action focuses on non-violence conflict resolution, youth mentorship, and community safety here in Milwaukee.
Organizers hope this week's events give young people a platform to discuss topics they might not always be comfortable talking about.
"They're looking for resources, they're looking for people to hear them and understand what they're dealing with, and by us being proactive, these are the type of things that they need," said Tracey Dent, CEO, Peace for Change Alliance, Inc.
There will be workshops and several other events held over the next few days in recognition of Youth Victory Over Violence Week, all leading up to a peace walk this Thursday, April 30.
