Wisconsin soldier accounted for decades after World War II service
BELOIT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Defense POW / MIA Accounting Agency has announced the accounting of U.S. Army Pfc. Clinton P. Koloski, who was killed in action during World War II.
The 21-year-old soldier from City Point was assigned to Company A, 36th Engineer Combat Regiment, and was killed on Jan. 14, 1945, near Obermuhlthal, France, during a patrol.
The public announcement was made in a Thursday, June 22 press release, following a full briefing provided to the family of Koloski after he was officially accounted for on Sept. 12, 2022.
In 1947, remains found near Obermuhlthal were tentatively associated with Koloski but were buried as unknown due to inconclusive dental records. The remains were later disinterred in Feb. 2020 and subjected to analysis at the DPAA Laboratory at Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
DPAA scientists used dental and anthropological analysis, material and circumstantial evidence, as well as DNA analysis to identify the remains as Koloski's.
Koloski’s name, recorded on the Walls of the Missing at Epinal American Cemetery in Dinozé, France, will have a rosette placed next to it to indicate he has been accounted for.
Burial is scheduled for June 30 in Beloit, Wisconsin. Those seeking family and funeral information may contact the Army Casualty Office at (800) 892-2490.
