UWM students begin moving to campus
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- May is recognized as "moving month," so to help people moving to, from and around the Milwaukee area, Jim Temmer, the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau president, joined us on Monday to discuss scams involving moving companies.
He highlighted the various tactics scammers use to exploit people during their moves. In 2023, 1.5 million inquiries were made on BBB.org about moving companies, with 5,918 complaints filed. Consumers reported losing a median of $350 to these scams last year.
The scams ranged from no-shows and upcharges to stolen items.
Temmer recommends consumers be cautious, look for warning signs and keep an inventory of their belongings to avoid falling victim to these scams.
More details can be found by reading the BBB's full report here.
