Driver dead after crash into ditch in Waukesha County

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the driver has succumbed to his injuries, despite the rescue attempt and hospitalization.


WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A driver was rescued after a crash Tuesday, Aug. 26 that left a vehicle submerged in water along Highway 16.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department says several callers reported the vehicle in a ditch around 5:31 a.m. eastbound on Highway 16 near Highway KE. Deputies and Wisconsin State Patrol troopers found the vehicle resting in about three feet of water.

The driver, who was the only occupant, was found without a pulse and not breathing.

Deputies removed the driver from the vehicle and began lifesaving efforts until Pewaukee Fire Department personnel arrived and continued care. The driver was taken to a hospital, where he is alive and receiving medical care.

One lane of Highway 16 was closed for about an hour during the response. Authorities said one witness reported seeing the crash.
