MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee is about to get its moment on a big stage. The city will be featured in a special episode of "Wheel of Fortune," and the winner will get a $10,000 trip here.

Many people here say Milwaukee has always been worth the visit.

“Feels amazing,” said Peggy Williams-Smith, president of Visit Milwaukee.

It starts with a spin, but for Milwaukee, it’s a chance to show the rest of the country what people here have already known.

“A lot of people just don’t really know what they’re missing out on when you’re talking about Milwaukee and everything it has to offer,” said Anthony Campeau, a Milwaukee resident.

As part of its Open Road series, "Wheel of Fortune" is airing a special Milwaukee-focused episode on Thursday, putting the city in front of millions.

“It’s about time. We’re shining and we should shine more,” said Karen Gross, who works in Milwaukee.

The grand prize includes several stops around the city, including a stay at The Pfister Hotel, a culinary class at Lakefront Brewery, a stop at Kegel’s Inn, 3rd Street Market Hall, and more.

“There’s no chains, it’s all privately owned, and where can you go where there’s 30 different types of food to eat?” Gross said of the 3rd Street Market Hall.

For some, it’s hard to pick a favorite spot around the city.

“We have such a warm and hospitable heart,” said Smith. “That would be like saying I have a favorite child, and I think that is illegal.”

So, while Milwaukee might not be the biggest city or the loudest, one thing is clear.

“Should be on more people’s bucket list,” said Mary Yank, a Milwaukee County local.

Milwaukee is just getting started.

“Like the old saying goes, I hope they tell 10 friends, who tell 10 more friends, who tell 10 more friends how fabulous it is to be in Milwaukee,” said Williams-Smith.
