WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The sculptures dedicated to the 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade victims will undergo evaluation after noticeable cracking on both the downtown parade memorial monument and the heart sculpture in Grede Park.

Thrive Architects and the City of Waukesha both tell us they're aware of the cracks and that evaluations and repairs will take place as needed.

In a statement Monday, May 4, Thrive Architects said:

“Thrive Architects is aware of cracking at the Parade Memorial Heart Sculpture located at Grede Park. The sculpture is made of composite materials; a sturdy steel frame supports a superficial exterior synthetic cladding. We designed the heart to represent resilience and thus, it can easily be repaired. Currently, the construction team is in the process of assessing the repairs needed through the original contractor who fabricated and installed the piece.”

The City of Waukesha issued the following statement:

"The City has been made aware of cracking observed on the Downtown Parade Memorial Monument. We have a scheduled review with a structural engineer who will conduct an evaluation and assist in determining any action steps.
Regarding the cracking observed on the heart sculpture at the Parade Memorial in Grede Park, this was previously identified and the project construction and design team is working with the original contractor who fabricated and installed the piece to complete the necessary repairs. These repairs would be covered under warranty.
It is important to note that materials exposed to outdoor environments commonly experience some cracking over time as they settle and are subjected to temperature fluctuations. The City conducts routine inspections of these areas to proactively identify and address any concerns. We will continue to monitor both memorial sites closely and complete any necessary repairs as they arise."
