WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Cities and businesses are preparing for another round of storms Friday night, April 17. On Main Street and Riverfront Drive in Waukesha, barriers have been placed preventing people from going over the bridge.

With each passing hour, just steps away from Main Street, the Fox River moves fast and inches closer.

“Right now, the river is flowing over onto the road next to us so it’s going into the storm sewer right back into the river," said Discount Liquor Owner Frank Greguska.

When the water gets high enough, the river pushes back.

“The water hits the bottom of the bridge, and it actually shakes you can feel it on the sidewalks so I’m glad they put the trucks on there," said Greguska.

Down the street, inside Discount Liquor, Frank Greguska is listening for a different sound, the hum machines trying to keep the water out.

"We've got three wet dry vacs going on right now, pulling water out of the basement, so we are keeping up with it. If it gets worse, there’s supposed to be a storm tonight, we’ll know tomorrow and the next day what that does to it," said Greguska.

The water started coming in days ago. And for Greguska, it feels all too familiar.

"I didn't think this was going to happen this close to last August," he said.

City crews say they have been watching the river and putting up barriers.

"We have staff available and lined up on call to respond to flooded roadways," said Brandon Schwemm, deputy director of the City of Waukesha Public Works Department. "It's been ever changing, ever evolving and just monitoring."

Last summer's flood left its mark and with more rain in the forecast, Greguska says he's just preparing for the worst and hoping for the best.
