Thousands of MPS students attend annual 'World Fair' to showcase projects on United Nations
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Thousands of students flocked to the Baird Center in downtown Milwaukee on Thursday, May 14, to show off what they've learned in social studies this schoolyear.
Approximately 3,000 fourth through eighth graders attended an event they call a "World Fair."
The students share projects they've completed and show what they've learned about the countries that make up the United Nations.
The projects are not all dioramas or posters, there are music and dance projects, a fashion show, and more. They call it a celebration of culture, identity and global connection.
"It's the work of what we want kids to do in social studies, right? How do we become global citizens? How do we make our communities better," said Jennie Eckstein, social studies specialist with Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS).
The students came from 18 schools that are part of MPS' United Nations Schools of International Learning program.
This is the 11th annual World Fair.
