Semi truck hits bike in Beaver Dam

On Tuesday, June 27, at 3:22 PM the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a car  versus bicycle crash on County Highway S at the intersection with South Center Road, in the Beaver Dam.

A 67-year-old man from Beaver Dam, Larry Bilke, was riding his bike east on County Highway S approaching the intersection with S. Center Road. A 59-year-old Juneau man, Jeffrey Ziehmem, was driving a 2016 Kenworth semi truck east on Highway S.

The bicycle initiated a left turn onto S. Center Road and the truck swerved to the left in an attempt to avoid a collision with the bicycle.  The right side of the Kenworth struck the bicycle, causing the bicyclist to fly in the air.    

Bilke was transported to Beaver Dam Hospital and then transferred by ambulance to UW Hospital in Madison. Ziehme was uninjured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team.
