Racine County Zoo RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine Zoo is mourning the loss of one of their own. Kirindy, a fossa, passed away on Tuesday, March 10 after a battle with arthritis.
"He will be greatly missed and forever remembered," the zoo said in a news release.
According to the Racine Zoo, Kinnidy arrived at the zoo in 2010 and resided in the Vanishing Kingdom. Kirindy was known for his strong and "fierce" demeanor and had impressive climbing skills and cat-like reflexes.
Kirindy's caretakers said he would find spots to curl up for a nap, and it would be a common task for his keepers to have to search for him.
It was discovered Kirindy developed significant age-related arthritis that resulted in decreased mobility and disinterest in climbing to higher areas of his habitat.
Kirindy's condition worsened, according to the zoo, and animal care staff made the decision to humanely euthanize Kirindy on March 10. He died surrounded by all members of the carnivore team as they shared memories of him.
