‘Our lives are on hold’: Concerns continue ahead of potential Big Bend sports complex

BIG BEND, Wis (CBS 58) - A multi-million-dollar athletic facility could soon be built in Big Bend, near the borders of Vernon and Waukesha.

Back in January, Waukesha County residents had the chance to express their concerns about the facility and packed a board meeting.

This week the village held their monthly planning commission meeting, but the facility was not on the agenda. However, people were still there to speak out.

The Breck Athletic Complex would feature six baseball turf fields, seven full sized soccer fields, four lacrosse fields, an indoor turf facility and more.

“People have lived here many years, it’s a good community, we want to keep it peaceful and quiet and we want Big Bend to know how we feel it’s important,” Vernon resident Jackie Trimborn said.

Jackie and her husband Mike have lived in Vernon for 43 years and are right across the street from the proposed facility location.

“Everything is on stop because what if they put this huge complex in,” Mike said. “We’re at an age, are we gonna put up with that or are we just gonna move.”

The Big Ben Plan Commissioner told people this week that the facility would be back on the agenda at the next town meeting in March.

“I don’t think they really care about us, because they live four, five miles away from this development,” Mike said. “Like hey we don’t care about those people that’s Waukesha and that’s Vernon, the villages.”
