MPD: Officer hit by car, suspect shot by police near Water Street
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) - Milwaukee police say early Sunday morning officers patrolling the downtown entertainment district heard multiple gunshots near E. Knapp Street and N. Water Street.
The Milwaukee Police Department says officers responding to the gunshots saw an Audi flee the scene, which hit an officer while driving off. Police say officers, including the injured one, then fired their weapons at the vehicle.
MPD says the car was later found unoccupied on the 1200 block of W. Fond du Lac Avenue. The driver was then found near the car. Police say the driver was struck by the officers’ gunfire. A gun was located in the suspect’s car and another gun was found in the area.
Police say driver of the car was an 18-year-old man. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries and was arrested.
The injured officer is a 25-year-old woman, with less than a year of service. She was transported to a hospital for treatment of non-fatal injuries.
MPD says the other officers involved in this incident are a 28-year-old man with over 7 years of service and a 27-year-old man with over 8 years of service. All officers will be placed on administrative duty as is routine in a critical incident.
Police say there are two additional people that arrived at hospitals with gunshot injuries. At this time, it has not been determined if they were injured during this incident or the shots fired that officers responded to.
The Milwaukee Police Homicide Unit is investigating this incident.
