MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Muslim community gathered at the Baird Center Friday morning, to commemorate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan and fasting.
The holiday is usually a time of celebration, but celebrations are a little different this year due to ongoing wars in the Middle East.
The executive director of the Islamic Society of Milwaukee says they're telling those present Friday to still celebrate, but not to forget about the people who are suffering.
"For us, we want to celebrate a holiday, and yet we see the destruction of an entire civilization and cultures and people," Executive Director Othman Atta said. "It's very troubling, so it kind of tempers the celebratory nature of our holiday."
We're told this was just one of many holiday prayer services that took place in Milwaukee Friday morning.
