Milwaukee shows support for sexual violence survivors on 15th Annual Denim Day
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Millions of people throughout the world are wearing denim with the purpose of supporting survivors of sexual violence. Here in Milwaukee, that mission remains the same.
The Journey House hosted the city's 15th Annual Denim Day event Wednesday, April 29.
Students gathered and listened to speakers reflecting on the day's meaning and telling their own personal stories.
In attendance was Mayor Cavalier Johnson, who spoke about how practicing respect can help build a stronger Milwaukee.
"So I stand here today, with our Department of Wellness and Safety, committed to building a community here in our city where everyone feels safe, where everyone feels respected and where everyone feels supported," Mayor Johnson said.
Denim Day has been globally recognized since 1999.
