Milwaukee leaders tour new homes as they push to provide affordable housing for all
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- You've heard about the need for affordable housing in Milwaukee. You've probably heard by now that Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson has declared 2026 the "Year of Housing."
On Friday, April 24, local leaders to a first-hand look at one effort to alleviate the shortage and address issues of racial equity.
They were given a tour of six new homes on Milwaukee's north side. They represent the kinds of entry-level homes the Community Development Alliance and its partners are building for homeowners of color across the city.
"People are concerned about displacement, people are concerned about gentrification, people are concerned about abandonment. The best way to fight that, we believe, is to build high quality homes and to get them into people's hands for home ownership at a lower cost than it costs to build, so that's what we're doing," said Frank Martinez, deputy director with Community Development Alliance.
Friday's tour is part of a strategic plan to advance racial equity by providing a quality, affordable home for every Milwaukeean.
