MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Alderperson JoCasta Zamarripa, Alderman Peter Burgelis and the city's HIVE Employee Resource Group released a joint statement Tuesday, March 31 to recognize International Transgender Day of Visibility.

The statement acknowledged ongoing challenges facing transgender and non-binary communities, including discrimination, poverty and violence, while showing support for residents' rights to live as their authentic selves.

The officials called for continuous action beyond one-time statements, including standing against policies that harm transgender and non-binary people and amplifying their voices and experiences.
