MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Community was the theme in Milwaukee's Roosevelt Grove neighborhood Saturday, May 2.
Alderman Diandre Jackson, faith leaders and local non-profits hosted a family resource fair this afternoon.
The free event offered north side families everything from cooking demos and free haircuts to health screenings and a grocery giveaway.
Organizers say Saturday's turnout shows there's a real need, just to give people the basics.
"People speak with their feet, they vote with their feet. And there's over 300 people that have walked through these doors today and said I need to be here, I need these resources, I want to be here," said Walter Harvey, executive director of Prism EDC. "There's a wealth, there's a gold mine in this building today."
As an added bonus, organizers gave out $800 in gas cards.
That additional giveaway is tied to the recent spike in gas prices.
