MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – The Milwaukee County Zoo celebrated a big birthday on Wednesday.
The zoo’s polar bear, Snow Lilly, is turning 34 and is the oldest polar bear in a North American zoo.
Zookeepers say Snow Lilly is healthy and fairly active. To celebrate the milestone, she was given several gifts.
“Inside of the presents are numerous food treats, different things for her to manipulate, there’s some scents, perfumes in them just to kind of peak her interest,” Milwaukee County Zoo North America area supervisor Dawn Fleuchaus said.
In the wild, polar bears live up to 20-years-old. Under human care, the average is 30-years-old.
