MILWUAKEE (CBS 58) -- The man convicted of locking his kids in a storage unit will now be locked in a prison cell for half a decade.

Charles Durpriest was convicted by a jury on eight counts of child neglect and a felony charge for having a gun.

His kids, ages two months to nine years old, were found in a storage unit on Milwaukee's north side last September.

Dupriest and the mother of the children were sleeping in a car with a gun in the center console.

That was the most serious charge and the judge said Dupriest should have known better as a convicted felon and his kids are paying the price.

The judge sentenced Dupriest to five years in prison and another five on parole.
