For the past two years, the 3rd of July has been a painful reminder for a Milwaukee family.
You may remember a shooting that killed a 14-year-old right at the lakefront fireworks.
Tariq Akbar's family held a balloon release in his memory. They say that they don't want anyone to forget him.
The vigil was at Akbar's gravesite in Milwaukee's Graceland Cemetery.
On July 3rd, Akbar was in the middle of a crowd when shots rang out. Matthew McMillan was arrested and charged with the killing but that case was dismissed. Akbar's mother says she is not giving up on getting justice for her son.
"I feel frustrated because that was my youngest son and for him to be taken a young age like that, it's hurtful. You know, just being somewhere and a fight jumps off and he ends up dying. It's a hurtful feeling," said his mother.
Tariq Akbar would have been going into his junior year of high school in the fall.
