Updated: May 1, 2026
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Lake Express ferry has officially kicked off its travel season. The high-speed ferry service between Milwaukee and Muskegon, Michigan took off at 6 a.m. Friday.
Officials say they work year-round to get everything ready for the season.
The ship provides the fastest ferry service on Lake Michigan, carrying 100,000 travelers from around the U.S. and the world.
"We get you across in two-and-a-half hours versus a five-hour drive," said Aaron Schultz, vice president of Lake Express. "So, it's a speedboat that carries your car. You can sit inside and enjoy and relax and move around. It's a break versus a normal drive through Chicago."
The Lake Express ferry runs four times a day. The first boat leaves Milwaukee at 6 a.m. each morning.
