'Just chaos': Area around Marquette University campus hit by flash flooding amid severe storms
CBS 58 MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- One of the areas hit by Wednesday night's flash floods during the severe storms was near the Marquette University campus.
On Thursday morning, April 16, crews spent hours cleaning off sidewalks and brushing off remaining mud and debris.
Jack Wilka, a Marquette student, said he was at the Brewers game and came home to find rising water levels.
“There was stand in water up to my knees and at some spots even higher, just chaos," Wilka said.
And, in typical college fashion, he and several others gathered swim caps, swimsuits, and played music as they waded into the roads.
“Couple brave souls hopped in the water dancing, swimming, whatever but overall, it was a very community-bringing together event," Wilka said. “I think everyone kind of just came together and accepted what was happening and there wasn’t really anything we could do about it.”
Thankfully, the water is now pretty much gone from the area.
And while these students had fun, CBS 58 wants to remind you that if you see floodwaters, you should stay out of it as it can be dangerous and even cause illness.
