GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) says a deadly crash and fire on a freeway off-ramp stemmed from a hit-and-run just moments earlier.
According to the sheriff's office, the victim of a hit-and-run followed the driver of the alleged striking vehicle to the off-ramp near I-894 and 60th St.
Officials say a preliminary investigation indicates the reported striking vehicle backed up the I-894 off-ramp and into the victim's vehicle, striking it again. The victim then dialed 911 and waited at the scene.
The MCSO says a short time later, first responders arrived and found the alleged striking vehicle on fire. A body was found inside the vehicle, determined to be a 30-year-old man.
An investigation is ongoing.

GREENFIELD, Wis. (CBS 58) -- One person is dead following a fiery crash on the 60th Street off-ramp near Interstate 894 in Greenfield.
Emergency crews responded to the crash scene and remained there for several hours Tuesday.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed they were called to the scene for one fatality. Officials have not yet released the identity of the person who died.
A red truck appeared to sustain significant damage in the crash. The vehicle's hood was crushed, and the front end was heavily burned after catching fire.
"I saw a van on fire. I saw flames sticking out of the hood. Couple of firetrucks, lots of police," said nearby resident Willie Abdallah.
The 60th St. off-ramp remained closed for much of Tuesday morning while authorities investigated.
"So, I had to take the 76th Street exit and that was hours ago, maybe three hours ago, and I see they're still here," said Abdallah.
Police scanner audio revealed one person may have fled the scene.
Residents who live nearby said reckless driving is a concern at that intersection.
"Reckless driving is rampant around here. Ask anybody who lives on 60th, all the way to Cold Spring," said Abdallah. "The speed limit, I don't think is more than 30 miles an hour here. I'm used to seeing people do 70 miles an hour.”
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, which is investigating the crash, has not released any additional details, including if the person who fled was caught.
