Gov. Evers announces $1.5 million in job training grants, several going to Milwaukee-area employers
MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Gov. Tony Evers and the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced more than $1.5 million in Fast Forward grants to 19 employers across the state to train over 700 workers for in-demand jobs in construction, child care, healthcare, manufacturing and transportation.
The news came in a Tuesday, March 31 press release from Gov. Evers.
Several grants are headed to the Milwaukee area. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee received $54,087 to train 120 child care workers in Milwaukee County. Pure Sound Vision LLC in Milwaukee County received $19,000 for audiovisual installation training, and Beyond Vision Inc., also in Milwaukee County, received $10,427 to train 38 workers who are blind or visually impaired in Lean White Belt certification.
In Waukesha County, Visu-Sewer LLC received $21,576 to train 15 commercial drivers and GFL Environmental received $36,000 to provide CDL training to 12 unemployed people.
Two Sheboygan County employers received funding. Aurora Health Care was awarded $325,769 to partner with UW-Milwaukee in training 60 workers as forensic nurse examiners. Nemak USA Inc. received the largest individual grant at $400,000 to train 70 workers in mechanical power systems, CNC, robotics and other manufacturing skills.
Additional grants went to employers in Ozaukee, Dane, Sauk, Winnebago, Pierce, Columbia, Eau Claire, Washburn and Ashland counties.
The Fast Forward program reimburses occupational training costs and requires employers to meet benchmarks including an 85% training completion rate, according to the Tuesday press release.
