Former Ozaukee County coroner charged with misconduct in public office
CBS 58 OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Ozaukee County's former coroner has been criminally charged, according to the sheriff's office, following an investigation into alleged irregularities involving official records and reimbursement claims.
Officials say the investigation into Timothy Deppisch began in February of 2023, after the county's newly appointed medical examiner noticed potential discrepancies in travel expense vouchers submitted by Deppisch.
Investigators determined Deppisch submitted reimbursement requests for travel to funeral homes outside Ozaukee County, but officials say multiple representatives from those funeral homes reported that Deppisch had not been to their facilities.
He's accused of intentionally falsifying entries in an official report in December of 2022, according to sheriff's officials. They say he's accused of a similar offense in September of that year.
Deppisch was elected coroner in 2016, serving until January of 2023, when the position transitioned from an elected coroner to an appointed medical examiner.
The investigation remains ongoing.
