MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The calendar says June but that's not stopping the Milwaukee Fire Department preparing kids for colder weather.
Firefighters are encouraging people to donate to their Warm Up Winter campaign. They'll be stationed at intersections throughout the city Tuesday, June 25 through Thursday, June 27 collecting monetary donations that will be used to buy new winter coats.
The coats will be given to Milwaukee students in need this upcoming winter.
"We humbly ask you see our apparatus and our firefighters holding these signs and their boots. if you can spare a little bit, every little bit helps," said Chief Mark Rohlfing with the Milwaukee Fire Department.
It is dollars and cents that add up to a lot of money.
Since 2011, firefighters have handed out more than 34,000 coats to kids in Milwaukee.
