After two hours, Judge David Borowski sentenced 35-year-old Christopher Sloan to 16 years in prison and 10 years of extended supervision.

Prosecutors say Sloan was driving drunk when he crashed near 81st and Hampton in October of 2024. Investigators say his blood alcohol level was several times over the legal limit when he crashed into parked cars and a tree.

His 5-year-old son Jaylen was seriously injured in the crash and later died at a hospital. Jaylen's twin brother, who was also in the car, survived.

Sloan initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea in January before a jury trial began.

During the hearing Friday, Sloan apologized to his children and family and said he wished things turned out differently.

"I want to apologize to my family, my kids," Sloan said. "I feel like I failed them all. And also, my children, I feel like I failed with protecting them. I pray every day you can all forgive me."
