Death in custody investigation underway at Milwaukee County Jail
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The 34-year-old has been identified as Melvin Goodwin by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office on Monday, Sept. 15.
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 34-year-old man who experienced a medical emergency while in custody at the Milwaukee County Jail (MCJ) early Friday evening, Sept. 12.
The man was transferred to MCJ to face criminal charges from Waupun Correctional Institution. He has been in custody at MCJ since Sept. 4 after completing a prison sentence for other charges at the Waupun institution.
He was discovered in a cell in a housing unit unconscious and non-responsive. Lifesaving measures were performed but they were unsuccessful.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MSCO) extends their condolences to the family and loved ones.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death and as per state law the MSCO is not investigating itself.
There is no further comment at this time.
